Did you know? Part One

Did you know?......
Radar Detectors were first invented during the Arab Oil Embargo of the early 1970's. With the cost of fuel dramatically rising (Believe it or not if you count in inflation, the rise in fuel cost was actually MORE than what is currently happening) The government made the national speed limit to 55mph to lower fuel consumption and state law enforcement strictly enforced this.
Then a man name Dale Smith invented the "Fuzzbuster" Radar Detector. This little (little? Yea right!) electronic device took the world by storm. So much so that for years afterward
"Fuzzbuster" became a synonym for all radar detectors. These radar detector's looked only for X band radar, which was the standard then. Then the "Speed Wars" started pitting electronic manufacturers for both Law Enforcement and Radar Detectors against each other.
Every time Law Enforcement started using new state of the art radar guns like the first moving K band Radar Detector in 1972, companies were not far behind with a new detector to match! There were even cases of the Radar Gun manufacturers making the Radar Detectors also! As an answer to drivers buying radar detectors the Instant On switch was put on the Radar Guns not.
Then it took till the early 1990's before these Radar Gun Manufacturers came up with a third radar band names Ka band to be used with X,K bands. This development created the need for a Radar Detector that can pick up the multitudes of bands.
Laser Radar was actually developed in the very late 80's, as surprising as that sounds. They did not have the Laser technology to be a consistent way to run radar and could be disputed in court.
In early 1994 the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA for short) revised their standards for radar use and accuracy. The NHTSA found dismal accuracy and performance and is now tested for these faults by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP for short) and they must be approved by them if they are to be used in Law Enforcement.
This is just a brief history on Radar Detectors and I will elaborate more and more in a smaller forum. Contact me of you would like to add something or with a question. You can find more information on these by searching google in the "My Links" area of this blog.
Check back everyday, I WILL be putting more information here regarding Radar Studies, Facts, Reviews, Links etc.
